The modern day focus of many martial arts schools has shifted from applicable self defense and energy conservation to tournament competition, advanced techniques and acrobatics, and belt promotion. Though these can be fun and are a great avenue into martial arts, the most functional aspects of self defense are fading. Join me monthly for a look into some of the self defense and awareness skills that ancient cultures such as the Ninjas, Samurai, and Native American Scouts relied on for protection. The basics that we will cover over time will stem from grappling and striking arts such as judo, kung fu, tai chi, ninjitsu, aikido, jiu jitsu, karate, and tae kwon do.
